Banana Chocolate Old Fashioned
Banana Chocolate Old Fashioned
1 serving | Rocks glass
Ingredients
- 2 oz Bourbon of choice
- ½ oz Giffard Banane du Brésil
- ½ oz Tempus Fugit Banane
- ½ oz Velvet Falernum
- 3 dashes Aztec Chocolate Bitters
- ¼ oz (or to taste) Spiced Turbinado Rich Syrup
- Garnish: Banana chip
Note (Tempus Fugit): Tempus Fugit Banane can be very hard to find. If you cannot locate it, skip the Tempus Fugit and use 1 oz Giffard Banane du Brésil instead of ½ oz Giffard plus ½ oz Tempus Fugit — one ounce of Giffard only, same total banana liqueur.
Directions
- Add ice to a mixing glass.
- Add the bourbon, then the banana liqueurs (either ½ oz Giffard and ½ oz Tempus Fugit, or 1 oz Giffard only if substituting) and the Velvet Falernum.
- Add the Aztec Chocolate Bitters and Spiced Turbinado Rich Syrup.
- Stir until ice cold.
- Strain into a rocks glass with one large ice sphere or cube. Garnish with a banana chip and serve.
Tip: Adjust the Spiced Turbinado Rich Syrup to your taste — start with ¼ oz and add a bit more if you like a sweeter, rounder drink. Use a single large ice sphere or cube in the rocks glass to keep the drink cold.
Cherry Cola Old Fashioned
Cherry Cola Old Fashioned
1 serving | Rocks glass
Whiskey, cherry cola syrup, bitters, ice. Same Old Fashioned build. The syrup brings cherry and a little spice. Start at half an ounce.
Ingredients
- 2 oz Rye whiskey or high-proof bourbon
- ½–¾ oz Cherry Cola Syrup
- 2–3 dashes Angostura or cherry bitters
- Garnish: Luxardo cherry or an orange twist
Directions
- Add ice to a mixing glass.
- Add the whiskey, cherry cola syrup, and bitters.
- Stir until well chilled.
- Strain over a single large cube in a rocks glass.
- Garnish with a Luxardo cherry, or express an orange twist over the drink and drop it in.
Tip: Start at ½ oz of syrup. Add more if you want. Rye keeps it drier. A bonded or 100-proof bourbon stands up to the sweetness better than an 80-proof bottle. Angostura is the default. Cherry bitters if you want more cherry; black walnut or chocolate bitters if you want it to lean dessert. Homemade
bourbon cocktail cherries work if you are out of Luxardo.
Classic Old Fashioned
Classic Old Fashioned
1 serving | Rocks glass
Whiskey, Spiced Turbinado Rich Syrup, Angostura and orange bitters, ice, expressed orange peel, an Amarena Fabbri cherry, and a finishing spritz of Spiced Lemon oil.
Ingredients
- 2 oz Bourbon or rye whiskey
- ¼ oz Spiced Turbinado Rich Syrup
- 2–3 dashes Angostura aromatic bitters
- 1–2 dashes Orange bitters
- A bar spoon of Amarena Fabbri cherry syrup (optional, to taste)
- 1 large ice cube
- Garnish: Orange peel and an Amarena Fabbri cherry
- Finish: Spiced Lemon oil (atomizer spritz)
Directions
- Add the Spiced Turbinado Rich Syrup, Angostura, orange bitters, and a bar spoon of Amarena cherry syrup (if using) to a rocks glass.
- Add the whiskey and a large cube of ice.
- Stir 20–30 seconds, until properly chilled and slightly diluted.
- Cut a wide orange peel, squeeze it over the drink to express the oils, rub it around the rim, then drop it in.
- Garnish with an Amarena Fabbri cherry.
- Give the drink a light spritz of Spiced Lemon oil. (Secret weapon — enjoy.)
Tip: Keep the cherry syrup light so it doesn’t overtake the whiskey and spice. The Spiced Lemon oil on top is the finish that ties the orange peel and cherry together — one short spritz is enough.
Vanilla Old Fashioned
Vanilla Old Fashioned
1 serving | Rocks glass
Ingredients
- 2½ oz Bourbon whiskey
- ½ oz Giffard Vanilla de Madagascar
- 12 drops Bob’s Vanilla Bitters
- Garnish: Orange zest twist
Directions
- Add ice to a mixing glass.
- Add the bourbon, Giffard Vanilla de Madagascar, and Bob’s Vanilla Bitters.
- Stir until ice cold.
- Strain into an ice-filled rocks glass over a large cube or chunk of block ice.
- Express the orange zest twist over the cocktail and use it as the garnish.
Alternate Recipe
If the original is too strong, use this build instead: replace the 2½ oz bourbon and ½ oz vanilla with 1 oz bourbon and 1 oz vanilla liqueur — less alcohol, more vanilla-forward.
- 1 oz Bourbon whiskey
- 1 oz Giffard Vanilla de Madagascar
- 12 drops Bob’s Vanilla Bitters
- Garnish: Orange zest twist
Stir with ice and strain into an ice-filled glass over a large cube or chunk of block ice, as above. Express the orange zest twist over the drink and use as garnish.
Tip: Express the orange oils over the surface of the drink before placing the twist in the glass — it brightens the vanilla and bourbon.
